By Joseph Burr (Published by The Fifty Fund)

This book from The Fifty Fund focusses on the trains hauled by class 50s locomotives in and around the cities of Bristol and Bath. The first of the English Electric built locomotives arrived for duty at Bristol Bath Road depot in 1972 and for the next twenty years they were a staple of freight, passenger and maintenance trains in the area. We look at each of the main routes and branch lines from 1973 to the current day with many pictures from both before and after the major refurbishment of the class.

For the purposes of this book the area considered to be Bristol and Bath is the area inside the following locations:
To the North: Cam and Dursley, To the East: Thingley Junction and Hullavington, To the South: Bradford Junctions and Cogload Junction. To the West:  The Severn Tunnel portal near Pilning.

John Cronin, the last Depot Manager at Bristol Bath Road (as part of his role as the Intercity Great Western Area Maintenance Engineer), has generously provided the foreward to the book, and provided an insights into the work of each of the Bristol Depots.
